Don’t Waste Your Life, Part 4: Your Family

We loved seeing everyone this weekend! Feel free to message us during the week if you have any questions. If you missed this week’s message, or want to hear it again, be sure to check out our SERMONS Page. Messages are generally posted each week by Tuesday afternoon.

Every week, it’s our goal to provide you with some questions to process the message deeper, either personally, or with a small group. Here are some questions for you to consider from this week’s message, “Your FAMILY”, part 4 of the DON’T WASTE YOUR LIFE series with Pastor Shawn M. Shoup.

KEY SCRIPTURES

  • Ephesians 6: 1
  • 1 Peter 3 :7
  • 1Timothy 5: 4
  • Ephesians 3: 14-19
  • Genesis 45: 5-8
  • Ephesians 5: 15-16

TALK IT OUT

Discuss these questions with someone—maybe a family member, friend, or member of your Connect Group. Use a communication method that works best for your situation.

Start talking.

Find a conversation starter for your group.

  • Who do you consider your family?
  • Who has the final word on decisions and family matters?
  • What are your family dynamics? is it a partnership, where all voices are heard, or dictatorship, where one voice is heard? Or something else?
  • Define “Honor”.

Start thinking.

Ask a question to get your group thinking.

  • Would God be pleased with how you treat others in your family?
  • Where does God fit in your family?
  • Do you know the various personalities involved in the family? If so, what are they?
  • Do you talk to the various personalities in your family as they desire or need to be talked to?

Start sharing.

Choose a question to create openness.

  • If you were in the story of Joseph, in Genesis, who would you be and why?
  • Who came up with the idea of family?
  • How are you influencing your family? Would God be proud of it?
  • If your life and thoughts were a book to read, what would the influence be on the reader?
  • What do you feel God would say about your role in the family?

Start praying.

Be bold and pray with power.

Father,

Thank you for opening my eyes to my part in the group of people I call my family. Help and enable me to encourage those who need the encouragement, support those who need the support, and help me be the best I can be. Help me see those in my family as You do. Thank You for putting me into this family.

Amen and amen.

Start doing.

Commit to a step and live it out this week.

ASK THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS ABOUT HOW NOT TO WASTE YOUR FAMILY:

  1. What more can I give or do without being asked?
  2. What more can I learn and from whom?
  3. How can I personally advance the vision of my family?
  4. How can I shine or enable another to shine?
  5. Who can I help today?
  • Pick one or two of those and take steps to answer that question in your place of work or influence.
